Working In The Heat: Heat Stress Prevention

Guess what... the earth is getting hotter and hotter. 2020 tied the planet's warmest year ever and by 2050, the US is projected to more than double in dangerous heat days (a heat index of above 104) from 20 to 58. Work doesn't always stop if the conditions get hot. In fact, workers are already seriously injured or killed by heat stress every single day - not just outdoor workers - indoor workers working 365 days a year sweating in factory's, paper mills, and other demanding indoor environments. The good thing is, we can protect them!

Develop worksite-specific heat stress prevention plans...

"Water. Rest. Shade" - OSHA. A complete heat stress prevention plan definitely needs the basics. However, employers need to know that water, rest, and shade aren't just the only things their employees need when working in hot conditions. They not only need to keep employees hydrated, shaded, and comfortable but employ advanced cooling technologies to keep them continuously cool outdoors and in.

But sometimes staying out of the sun isn't exactly going to work with your job application - don't worry! Along with staying hydrated, workers can be protected with apparel that aids in cooling the body temperature and keeping them cool. Here at Ritz Safety, we sell cooling apparel and accessories that do just that!

Chill-Its® 6615 High-Performance Bandana Do Rag

Made with Hi Cool® moisture-wicking technology to keep workers comfortably cool and dry on hot days. The Hi Cool® performance fabric wicks moisture for quick-drying, while the absorbent terry cloth sweatband prevents sweat from dripping into the eyes. This low-profile cooling do-rag can be worn alone or under a hard hat. One size fits most, the back features an elastic band that stretches to comfortably fit a variety of head sizes. To be worn correctly, the three pieces of fabric should also be tied in a knot. Machine wash as needed and hang to dry. Ideal for construction, landscaping, roofing or anyone working in the heat.

Chill-Its® 6602 Evaporative Cooling Towel

The Chill-Its 6602® Evaporative Cooling Towel uses a super evaporative PVA material to absorb water to then allow it to evaporate slowly for an instant, long-lasting cooling relief. This super-evaporative PVA material is designed to create a feeling colder than the ambient air temperature and absorb and hold more water than other cooling towels on the market for longer-lasting cooling. This neck cooling wrap can be used for hours or for quick relief and is completely reusable, just re-wet to activate.

Well, we've got the solution for you!
